Position: Director of Kilometro Rosso

Salvatore is the Director of Kilometro Rosso (www.kilometrorosso.com), the Innovation District in Bergamo (Italy) dedicated to developing collaboration and cross-fertilization between research and industry in creating new products and services. With solid experience in patent portfolio management, intellectual property licensing, and creation of technology-based startups, Salvatore’s main activity focuses on technology valorization and new product/service development. Among his activities, he launched CYSERO, a Venture Capital Fund promoted by Kilometro Rosso and AVM Gestioni SGR to invest in startups focused on Cybersecurity and Robotics. Salvatore is also the founder of Eureka! Fund (www.eurekaventure.it), an early-stage technology-focused venture capital fund in the field of materials science and engineering, aiming to create new ventures from high-quality scientific research in the areas of environmental sustainability, mobility, energy, and well-being. Before joining Kilometro Rosso, Salvatore served as Director of Technology Transfer at the Italian Institute of Technology, a high-level research center operating in the fields of robotics, materials, and life sciences. He was General Manager of an investment company, General Consultant for AT Kearney and Deloitte, investment analyst for the KIWI Investment Fund, and specialist researcher at Telecom Italia Lab (CSELT).
He graduated with honors in Engineering from the University of Catania (Italy), was a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley (USA), and obtained his MBA from INSEAD (France and Singapore). Among his appointments, he serves as Vice President of IASP (www.iasp.ws), the worldwide association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation. Other roles include: Expert Reviewer for the ERC – European Research Council; Expert Reviewer for the EIT – European Institute of Innovation and Technology; he was a board member of InnovUp (Italian Association of Science Parks, Startups, and Innovation Agents); President of the jury for the national startup circuit Premio 2031 (formerly “Premio Gaetano Marzotto”); board member of the Digital Innovation Hub of Bergamo; member of the Technical Council of the Competence Center MADE on I4.0; member of the Technical Advisory Board of the FROM Foundation for clinical research in support of the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo.
